Dr Tushar | The Pain Clinic

Tushar is a University of Auckland graduate, now working in Auckland for the past 3 years. He’s worked in all three of the Auckland DHBs, looking after wards from medical to surgical. This year he is furthering his skills in obstetrics and gynaecology to place a greater focus on women’s health.

Tushar doesn’t just focus on the modality of the patient’s pain but their whole experience in their search for improvement of their condition. For many, pain is a chronic debilitating condition. It shouldn’t be just about looking for pain relief but also the need for the patient to be heard. It’s quite a journey for many people and a clinician to listen and help guide them is very important. Currently in New Zealand there is a large gap in terms of options for providing pain relief, particularly for those patients who are not indicated for morphine based analgesia and medications such as celecoxib or ibuprofen. Those medications are not ideal for the long term. Medicinal cannabis is here to fill that role.

Currently, Tushar has a special interest in ultrasound guided interventions, which include local anaesthesia, and is wanting to build his skills in this area. He sees great potential with medicinal cannabis as an aid for many possible ailments.   He hopes to integrate these medications with ultrasound guided intervention in the future.
